The Role of the Press in a Democratic Society

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, March 16 - 18, 1992. Designed and led seminar attended by government officials and journalists, lawyers, people interested in starting private media and human rights advocates. Advised Ethiopians drafting alternative press law proposal, resolution urging government to improve government media and encourage private media development. Sponsored by Center for Foreign Journalists, Reston, Virginia.

Toward Stronger, More Professional News Media in Ethiopia

A one-year project funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development to assist journalists in Ethiopia to establish a press association, to lobby for protection of freedom of expression through the constitution-drafting process, and to provide other services designed to encourage growth of privately owned news media.
